The Explorer August 2026
In this edition of The Explorer newsletter, discover the stories, people and programmes helping to conserve, share and encourage the spirit of exploration. Read about our new Strategic Plan (2026–2030), which sets out how we will build on our strengths, respond to a changing environment and create lasting impact across our work.
Go behind the scenes of our new six episode podcast, 77 Degrees South, which captures the real life sounds and experiences of our 2025 Inspiring Explorers Expedition™ to the Ross Sea. We also look ahead to the Trust’s 40th anniversary in 2027 with an exciting special anniversary Inspiring Explorers Expedition™ to Antarctica’s Ross Sea region.
Across our Inspiring Explorers™ programmes, see how young people are developing their ‘Explorer Mindset’ through our Explorer Conference and gaining hands on experience with the same skills and values used by the Trust’s conservation teams working on the Ice each year through the new Inspiring Explorers™ New Zealand Huts programme.
Antarctic history is being brought to life through Minecraft and immersive virtual reality, including a joint VR tour with the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust across New Zealand and Australia.
We also share stories from our supporters, including the return of a special 1960s map to Hillary’s TAE/IGY hut and reflections from our Artefact Programme Coordinator following a summer working with the historic huts and their collections.
Plus, catch up on the latest from our Alumni and celebrate some exciting updates from across the Trust team.
