Because Scott’s first expedition base at Hut Point was the closest base to the South Pole it was used as a base by every subsequent expedition from the heroic era of exploration (1895–1917).
To follow is a brief history of the three expeditions who subsequently used Scott’s expedition base at Hut Point:
- Occupation by members of the British Antarctic (Nimrod) Expedition 1907–09 led by Sir Ernest Shackleton.
- Occupation by members of the British Antarctic (Terra Nova) Expedition 1910 13 led by Captain Robert Falcon Scott.
- Occupation by The Ross Sea Party, members of the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition 1914–1917 led by Sir Ernest Shackleton.
