Kiwis Visit Sir Ed’s Hut through Virtual Reality
Over the last year the Trust has been touring our fully immersive virtual reality experience of Sir Edmund Hillary’s Antarctic hut around New Zealand.
Thousands of Kiwis from primary school students to nonagenarians have had the opportunity to virtually ‘step inside’ New Zealand’s first expedition base in Antarctica. Another 13,500+ people globally have interacted with the online versions via the app and gaming platform Steam.
The positive feedback about the experience itself and the opportunity to learn more about New Zealand’s history in Antarctica, means that with continued support from sponsors, the Trust is delighted to announce it will continue to tour the VR experience throughout New Zealand in 2022.
In addition, the Trust has created a new version of the experience that allows for greater exploring and more interactions, which will be launched early next year.
Book your 2022 visit now by emailing g.roldan@nzaht.org.
With thanks to New Zealand Tour Sponsor Dulux NZ and project partners Auckland University of Technology, StaplesVR and logistics partner Antarctica New Zealand. Grateful thanks to donors to the Trust’s Inspiring Explorers™ Fund.
“Hillary is very important to me and to my family. I am from Nepal, without him I wouldn’t have an education. Thank you for giving me this opportunity, this was an amazing experience.”
