Communications Advisor

Full time, permanent role, based in Christchurch, New Zealand

  • Creation of inspiring communications for a global audience
  • Be part of conserving history & inspiring a new generation
  • Opportunity to develop your skills

Be part of a collaborative team that are passionate about conserving Antarctica’s cultural heritage and sharing incredible stories of the icy continent’s early explorers.

The Antarctic Heritage Trust is a New Zealand-based not-for-profit with a vision of ‘Inspiring Explorers’. Through its mission to conserve, share and encourage the spirit of exploration the Trust cares for the remarkable expedition bases of early Antarctic explorers including: Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Sir Ernest Shackleton and Sir Edmund Hillary. It shares the legacy of exploration through outreach programmes and encourages the spirit of exploration through expeditions to engage and inspire a new generation.

As part of a small, dedicated team, you’ll work closely with the Communications and Engagement Manager to deliver impactful communications, both nationally and globally. From crafting engaging publications and digital content to managing stakeholder communications and supporting events, you’ll be at the heart of how they connect with a broad audience. You’ll be responsible for ensuring messaging is clear, accurate, consistent, and aligned with the Trust’s brand and values. Plus, you’ll have the chance to bring your creativity to life by contributing to the development of fundraising and educational campaigns that help tell their story and engage with a global community across traditional and digital channels. This is a unique opportunity to share the Trust’s work in Antarctica, and be involved in a wide range of projects that make a lasting impact, conserving Antarctic history for generations to come.

We’re looking for someone who’s not only skilled in communications but also thrives in a small, collaborative team and interested in learning about history and conservation. Ideally, you’ll have experience or exposure to fundraising or non-for-profit communications. You will be comfortable using digital tools in innovative ways and can adapt written content to a wide range of stakeholders. You should be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a keen eye for detail to ensure everything meets the highest standards of quality and accuracy. Most importantly, you will be a team player who’s eager to roll up their sleeves and contribute to an organisation passionate about its mission.

If you’re a creative communicator, who wants to learn more about history and exploration, and help make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.
