Antarctic 3D Artefacts

With Antarctic 3D Artefacts you can gain insight into the first expedition to winter over on the Antarctic continent by examining objects left behind at Cape Adare by Carsten Borchgrevink’s 1898–1900 British Antarctic Expedition and Scott’s Northern Party expedition. These artefacts have been conserved by Antarctic Heritage Trust’s international team of experts.

My Explorer Journal

School aged explorers can also use the app in conjunction with a downloadable activity booklet, My Explorer Journal, to learn about the history of Antarctic exploration, Antarctic Heritage Trust’s Inspiring Explorers Expeditions™, and the Antarctic ecosystem, through augmented reality and 360° videos and photo galleries.

My Explorer Journal was created and illustrated by 20-year-old Anzac Gallate, one of Antarctic Heritage Trust’s Inspiring Explorers™.

Thank you to our Partners

The Trust worked with New Zealand company, Staples VR, to develop the augmented reality app.

To capture the Antarctic 3D artefacts Antarctic Heritage Trust partnered with Australian-based Tim Hanfield (Handfield & Bell Digitising Consultants) for photography and scanning and Trevor Coates (Leapfrog Strategic Communications) for 3D rendering and model refinement.

Polar travel company Quark Expeditions were the expedition partner for the Inspiring Explorers Expedition™ 2020.
