The Still Life exhibition is based on renowned photographer Jane Ussher’s evocative series of images of Scott and Shackleton’s historic expedition bases published in the acclaimed book Still Life: Inside the Antarctic Huts of Scott and Shackleton. These iconic structures, now cared for by Antarctic Heritage Trust, are associated with some of the most inspirational and harrowing stories in polar history. The exhibition is not currently on display.
Open now! Created by the Antarctic Heritage Trust in partnership with Canterbury Museum, Breaking the Ice: The First Year in Antarctica will be the public’s only chance to see items left behind by Carsten Borchgrevink’s Southern Cross and Robert Falcon Scott’s Terra Nova expeditions in two huts at Cape Adare. The exhibition runs until 13 October 2019.
