The Trust has published a podcast featuring a series of short interviews captured on location in Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s Terra Nova hut during the 2019 Antarctic season by Francesca Eathorne, Trust Chief Operations Officer.
Conservator Nicola Stewart, and Al Fastier, the Trust’s Programme Manager Ross Sea Heritage Restoration Project, share the stories behind conserving more than 11,000 artefacts left behind by the early explorers; and how using the applied science principles of conservation an international team of experts have been able to conserve the base so that it is weathertight for decades to come.
The podcast includes a first-hand account of living in the hut from an archival interview with Thomas Clissold, the expedition cook, and an evocative account of finding Scott’s missing polar party told by expedition physicist Sir Charles Wright.
The podcast is available on the usual podcast channels including Spotify and iTunes, and an enhanced content version is available on the Trust’s website, featuring a map of the hut with photo galleries and the audio files connected to each space within the hut.
